Why it is more efficient to develop software locally

Software developments are complex projects that ideally take into account all levels and components of processes and the IT system landscape of organizations in order to digitally optimize, automate, and further develop entire business processes and business models. In addition to technological expertise, this requires a deep understanding of the organization, its industry, and its customers. With a focus on technology-driven innovations and an integrative, holistic approach, we implement projects with local, interdisciplinary teams in close collaboration with our clients. This is faster and more innovative than having teams spread all over the world that are only put together based on hourly rates and not primarily on skills. Coordination issues and time differences frequently result in such teams working inefficiently. Relocation costs money and leads to a loss of control. Our aim is not to relocate development projects, but to automate them through the targeted use of AI, thereby making them efficient and economically sustainable. The Swiss economy must ensure its ability to innovate in the long term, and many industries are weighing up the costs involved: What is a commodity and can be produced automatically? And what is innovation, where more money and brainpower have to be invested? Even outsourced problems do not solve themselves: Standard tasks in IT must be consistently automated using AI — this leaves more room to implement genuine innovations more efficiently and successfully with the support of AI.

AI-powered: more speed, more quality, more innovation

With our AI-powered innovation approach, we strategically and operationally embed AI at all levels and phases of software development. We see great potential in AI-supported programming and code completion, repetitive tasks, and the use of design principles, but also in error analysis, quality assurance, and testing. Low-code systems will be replaced by AI-centric nocode systems to implement simple workflow-based development projects more efficiently, cost-effectively, and with smaller teams. These no-code systems have the potential to establish themselves as voice or textbased user interfaces for entire company systems.

More digital sovereignty with open source

In a politically unstable world in which old alliances no longer hold, individual control over our own data and technologically independent solutions — open source and on-premises or with data storage in secure Swiss data centers — are once again entering the spotlight. Ultimately, these decisions go beyond technological specifications. The question is how much digital sovereignty we are willing and able to afford. That is why we at ti&m rely on open source whenever possible, as with the business intelligence solution “Open Datastack” launched in 2025, in order to reduce our clients’ dependence on big tech companies and minimize the risk of lock-ins.

ti&m has always relied on its own products

From the very beginning, we have not been just an IT service provider, but have invested in the development of our own products since our founding. In addition to developing customized software, many companies rely on proven and standardized digitalization products from ti&m, which can be efficiently integrated into the system landscape and adapted to specific client needs. On the one hand, we offer industry-independent digitalization products for authentication, identification, and onboarding. At the same time, we have focused on the financial sector from the outset and are now one of the largest Swiss providers of digital banking products. Today, around 30 Swiss companies rely on the agnostic mobile and e-banking platform ti&m Banking. To support Swiss banks in their fintech and open banking initiatives, ti&m offers two standardized solutions — ti&m Banking Integration and ti&m Open Banking — to connect all common core banking systems with third-party systems and to link banks to the bLink open banking platform from SIX. This creates modern and open systems that can be further developed in an agile manner and create sustainable added value.

Close to the customer, close to the solution

For ti&m, customer proximity is not a buzzword, but a basic strategic approach. Since our founding, we have successfully pursued a consistent “Follow the Customer” strategy, which has led us to establish offices in Bern (our second largest location after Zurich), Basel, and Dusseldorf, as well as in the global financial centers of Singapore and Frankfurt. These are regions where our clients are shaping innovation and driving digital transformation. Our local presence enables us to better understand our clients’ needs and work with them as equals to develop appropriate solutions. It creates trust, shortens decision-making processes, and increases the speed of implementation. This applies to all sectors — from the financial sector and public administration to industry and healthcare. For example, Since opening our Singapore office in 2019, our local team has tripled in size. Being close to our international clients has not only accelerated our growth, but also increased the quality and relevance of our solutions.

ti&m remains independent, locally anchored, and innovative

Commitment to Switzerland remains important to ti&m, because successful and sustainable digitalization requires Swiss IT companies that keep their expertise, value creation, and innovation in Switzerland. With this focus, ti&m will move forward into the future as an innovative and reliable technology partner for its clients, as an employer that offers its employees an inspiring working environment, and as a company that contributes to a liberal and open Switzerland.
