MINT Digital Services, a subsidiary of SUISA, represents musicians and publishers worldwide in their dealings with streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. Month after month, these platforms deliver billions of individual data points that form the core of the business. This data determines how royalties are calculated and distributed. The previous solution was quickly reaching its limits. Slow dashboards, inefficient operation, and fragmented business logic made it difficult to handle the constantly growing volumes of data. Data flows were not transparent, collaboration was difficult and only possible via exports. It was clear that SUISA needed a modern, scalable platform that was not only technically impressive, but also focused on business users.

Silver at Best of Swiss Software for SUISA and Open Datastack

SUISA’s Business Intelligence & Data Quality Management is a fully containerized, open source-based data platform. It covers the entire process, from data engineering to analytics, and processes huge amounts of music streaming data. The platform offers a strong UX, multi-tenant architecture, and digital sovereignty.

The goal: collaborative, scalable, AI-ready

The new solution had to create a foundation that would go far beyond classic reporting. SUISA and MINT wanted a platform that not only processes data, but also makes it directly usable in daily decision-making processes. User-friendliness was a particular focus: the aim was to enable specialist departments to translate data directly into action through self-service analyses, collaborative dashboards, and interactive workflows. At the same time, the platform had to be future-proof. It had to be independent of proprietary providers, flexible in operation, and expandable for future AI applications by integrating an MCP server.

The solution: Open Datastack as an end-to-end platform

In less than a year, ti&m helped create a platform that covers all aspects of modern data management. Open Datastack combines data integration, processing, lakehouse architecture, and governance in a fully containerized, modular environment built consistently on open-source technologies. The platform integrates leading components such as Apache Superset for interactive visualizations, Dagster for data pipelines, and Soda Core for automated quality checks. With a flexible design system, the interface can be seamlessly adapted to SUISA’s and MINT’s corporate design. In the backend, a Lakehouse architecture with Trino and Apache Iceberg ensures performance and cost efficiency.

The result is a platform that offers technical excellence and intuitive access to complex data for business users. Its user interface looks more like a modern app than a classic business intelligence solution.

Digital Sovereignty and Security: Full Control at all Levels

A key feature of Open Datastack is its consistent focus on digital sovereignty. The Kubernetes-based platform can be operated in the cloud, on-premises, or locally. ti&m continuously monitors the open-source components used, maintains its own forks, and ensures security and compatibility with proactive patch management, even in the event of license changes or end-of-life scenarios. At the same time, the open source approach protects against vendor lock-in. SUISA always retains full control over the data and platform.

Security at the application level is guaranteed by a finely graduated access system. Role-based authorizations (RBAC), attribute-based policies (ABAC), and row-level security (RLS) allow for granular control all the way down to individual data records. In conjunction with standardized authentication and authorization procedures and detailed audit logs, Open Datastack meets the highest security requirements and ensures maximum transparency of all access processes.

Result: Data That Moves

Introducing Open Datastack at SUISA/MINT has fundamentally changed the way they work with streaming data. Instead of using fragmented individual solutions, data processing now takes place on a central platform. It is consolidated, efficient, and transparent.

Data is processed more quickly and analyses are delivered promptly.
Collaborative functions allow specialist departments to comment directly in dashboards, create tasks, and trigger workflows.
The cost structure is much easier to plan, as there are no consumption-based pricing models from external providers.

In addition, the platform is designed to be flexible and expandable, whether through additional data sources, new business functions, or the secure integration of AI applications.

Conclusion

With Open Datastack, SUISA/MINT has introduced a data platform that is far more than just a technical tool. It marks a paradigm shift away from static reports and toward a collaborative, interactive working environment where data forms the basis for daily decisions. The project shows how the innovative power of the open source community can be combined with ti&m’s experience to create a solution that unites technical excellence, user-friendliness, and digital sovereignty.
